Since our birth, we are often taught to chase perfection.
Perfect grades, perfect bodies, perfect careers. Perfect lives, as highly curated on social media. The world often rewards the most polished individuals, creating a perfect symmetry of the flawless. But somewhere in the middle of this relentless urge to be perfect, we begin to fear the very notion that makes us humans- imperfections.’
What are our imperfections, not our flaws, but rather the seeds waiting to grow and sprout?
The Myth of Perfection
An allusion to perfections, is a box filled with water to the brim; there is no room for movement, no space for evolution to ever occur. Unless the box is shattered, there is no space for water to flow out and spread. Being perfect idealizes no growth or changes required.
But humans are not static beings; each one of us are stories that progresses, a confluence of events that forms our identity.
Every mistake, every insecurity, and every failure are indicators of a possibility of a better future, not a sign of inadequacy. They show us where we are unfinished and that unfinished things carry potential that can do wonders.
Imperfections are the quiet doorway to spirituality; a wrong answer is not a failure, but the first whisper of wisdom. A heartbreak is not an ending, but the place where the soul learns its own depth.
Imperfection is evidence that we are still becoming the greatest versions of ourselves.
Growth Begins in Discomfort.
My mumma always reminded me of a simple yet powerful truth, that growth is rarely born in comfort. It takes shape in the uneasy realization that something isn’t right and in responding to the burgeoning urgency for change.
Just as when we notice our impatience, we learn to form empathy,
When we acknowledge our fear, we build courage,
When we confront the truth, we develop wisdom.
Without imperfection, one cannot simply form progressive actualization.
Even nature teaches us this: a seed should break before it becomes a tree. A muscle should be strained and torn slightly before it grows stronger. Transformation requires rupture.
Our flaws are not final verdicts- they are invitations.
Imperfections create Identity.
Just ponder upon the idea that if everyone were perfect, thinking the same and always behaving the same, there would be no originality, no uniqueness, no individuality.
No form of entertainment, or the epics of great love.
Our scars tell stories,
Our quirks create charms
Our struggle shapes our resilience.
It is often our most vulnerable parts that become our strongest foundations.
A shy kid may grow into a deeply observant adult
The person who failed repeatedly may become the most determined.
The one who always felt different may create change in society due to that difference.
Imperfection creates texture. And texture creates identity.
Self-Compassion: The Bridge to Growth
The problem is not that we are imperfect; it is that we condemn ourselves for being so.
Growth doesn’t transpire through self-sabotage. It occurs through the amalgamation of awareness with compassion. When we allow ourselves to be imperfect with shame, we create a safe space for improvement.
We cannot hate ourselves for becoming better.
We can only understand ourselves by evolving.
A Work in Progress:
Perhaps the most liberating realization is that you are not meant to be finished; you are meant to evolve.
Your present insecurities are not permanent definitions; they are merely unfolding chapters, and every chapter turns, reshapes, and deepens the story you are becoming.
Imperfection is not a sign that something is wrong with you; it is a sign that something is still growing within you
And that growth, my readers, is a slow, uneven, beautiful human growth, far more meaningful than perfection.
